Longley Starts Rooftop Development

Longley Group starts the build of x3 new apartments in Hayes, Kent.

Our latest news for August 21 focuses on one of our recently started residential sites. Work is now well underway with construction of x3 flats being built on top of this block of apartments located in Hayes, Kent. We have a full team onsite and plan to turn this project around with a strict timeframe to avoid any disruption for the existing properties.

The temporary scaffold structure is in place around the whole site and the original roof is now being dismantled. We expect this project to be completed by end of December 2021.

Longley Workshop at Cleveland Primary School.

Longley Group hosts a community-based workshop for the pupils at Cleveland Primary School.

Whilst the Longley Group are carrying major upgrades to the heating system at Cleveland Primary School, we decided to put together an experiential learning experience and invited 20 pupils to our onsite workshop. It was great to see all the pupils showing an interest in the works we are carrying out around the school whilst engaging in this 2hr long workshop hosted by project managers Sam Duggan and Alfie Longley.

During the workshop, our project managers discussions in detailed the following topics Health & Safety, PPE, General construction works, how to become a tradesperson and the types of tools that would typically be used. We then took 10 pupils at a time down into the basement and gave them a guided tour of the plant room (wearing full PPE!) and continued our discussion on how the heating system of the school works.

We invited the pupils to enter a drawing competition, they were asked to produce a plumbing related company name. Draw a company transit style van and produce a company logo. And draw a construction worker next to the van wearing personal protective equipment. Drawings had to include a hard hat, protective glasses, safety gloves and a hi-vis vest. There were some amazing drawings but there were only two winners, who were given £25 vouchers to spend at WHSmiths.

We felt overall the workshop was a total success and I’m sure we have found some of our future trade’s men and women.

Talk About Art (TAA) is a wonderful local charity that helps disadvantaged young people. They recently approached the Longley Group to ask for a sponsorship deal to assist in the set up and development costs of a project they are running to create income generating products and activities. A large percentage of The Longley Group’s work is in the education sector and with Managing Director Charlie Longley being a big advocate of supporting children and young people, as well as being a proud father of two himself, he was more than happy to support.

TAA has been in operation since 2015 and believes every child has natural inner creativity and that developing their creative confidence equips children and young people with skills that are invaluable to every aspect of life. They have been running visual arts projects for homeless children, unaccompanied asylum seekers and teenagers with mental health issues in South East London. Last year they produced an online gallery project ‘UR ART 2020’, celebrating young artists in Lockdown. Submissions were published in a book which is now held in libraries in Lewisham, Greenwich and Bromley.

TAA creates opportunities where children and teenagers can be given guided and supported access to creative engagement and all the associated benefits in instances where they are prevented by financial, social or cultural challenges. This work is so important as children are the architects, designers, software developers, engineers and artists of your future. Charlie has kindly donated £750 the cost of the Apple iPad Air for a prize draw and hoping to raise further funds.

Would you like a new iPad Air? Here’s your chance to win one! Just enter the Longley Group’s Charity raffle to win Apple’s latest iPad. Winter Warmer Charity Update

WeAreOne: Project Winter Warmer Appeal – Update

Back in October 2020 during one of our Longley team meetings, we decided to start hosting our own Charity events as we wanted to give back to our community. With so much going on in the world and with so many people at a disadvantage. We started working on ideas about how we could play our part in making a small difference in the lives of people in need one step at a time.

Our first WeAreOne: Project was launched in November 2020 in partnership with John Bygraves. We decided on a Winter Warmer Appeal. The response from our close networks was amazing. Special thanks, goes out to Victoria Wheeler for the contribution of brand new hats and gloves, to the anonymous lady for the wash bags full with essential toiletries and Charlie Longley for his £500 cash gift which was spent on x50 new sleeping bags. John Bygraves also played a great role in helping pull this together and securing lots of amazing winter warmers that went direct to Nightwatch homeless Charity Croydon helping the homeless stay warm this winter and the long last food which went to the Bromley Borough Foodbank. Thank you to everyone that contributed to this winter appeal you have all helped to make a difference within our community.

We are already planning our next WeAreOne: Project and full details will be announced very soon across our socials and news section here on our Longley website.

London Islamic Centre is currently in the first phase of the project.

The London Islamic Centre is currently in the first phase of the project, which will eventually lead to the completion of a 5000 capacity mosque. This will result in one of the largest prayer capacities in London. The project for Phase 1A was initially for 21 weeks with additional variations to suit the most up to date fire strategy regulations, such as smoke extraction and a sprinkler system. Daniel Lines is the Project Manager and it has been running with up to 30 operatives daily.

The project involves the full refurbishment and mechanical and electrical package of Phase 1A basement and ground floor. The project total currently stands at £1.4m. This first phase of the project will eventually lead to the refurbishment of levels 1 & 2 with a mechanical and electrical package.
